Snoezelen Multisensory Room
We are the first school in Panama to integrate a Snoezelen multisensory room into the school environment.
At Oxford International School, we set a precedent in early childhood education by becoming the first school in Panama to incorporate a Snoezelen room — an educational environment for multisensory stimulation designed to promote well-being, focus, emotional self-regulation, and meaningful learning.
What is the Snoezelen approach?
The Snoezelen concept, which originated in the Netherlands, is based on the creation of a controlled space that offers personalized sensory stimuli (visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and proprioceptive). Its purpose is to provide emotional security, stress reduction, and positive stimulation, adapting to the individual needs of each child.
Benefits of the Snoezelen Multisensory Room
- Emotional regulation: Promotes calmness, reduces anxiety, stress, and sensory overload. It encourages learning through bodily interaction and perception.
- Connection with the present: Supports mindfulness and full attention, allowing children to be “here and now.”
- Free exploration: Children discover at their own pace, without pressure, strengthening their autonomy and self-confidence.
- Strengthens emotional bonds: A safe space that fosters emotional connection between child and adult.
- Support for special needs: Ideal for children with autism, intellectual disabilities, sensory processing disorders, among others.
